Percussionist Logan Giese of Rio Rancho High School has received the 2019 Bruce Kroken Scholarship from the Albuquerque Concert Band. Every year, the band awards a scholarship to a New Mexico high school senior involved in the music program at his or her school. The $1,000 scholarship, which requires an audition before a panel of judges, is named after past Albuquerque Concert Band director Bruce Kroken, who died suddenly in 2004. Kroken was also a director of bands at Manzano High School and associate director of bands at Desert Ridge Middle School. He was a big supporter of community bands.
Logan is a senior at Rio Rancho High School and has been in the school’s jazz band and advanced wind symphony for three years, as well as the marching band for four years. She was featured in an Albuquerque Concert Band performance at the Eldorado High School Performing Arts Center on Sunday, April 7, 2019.
